DIRECTIONS
  1. Predissolve one teaspoon of ALKALI BUFFER (KH)  in one cup of freshwater for every 20 gallons o aquarium water.
  2. Then add the dissolved solution to the aquarium tank or sump tank.
  3. If needed, repeats this treatment everyday until alkalinity (KH) and pH are adjusted to the optimum range.
  4. Use ALKALI BUFFER (KH) on weekly intervals to maintain stable values
MAIN FUNCTION Alkalinity of water is its acid-neutralizing capacity.  Alkalinity of carbonate hardness (KH) is an important factor in a closed-reef system for corals, coralline algae and invertebrates.  Many organisms in a reef tank use carbonates and calcium (dissolved calcium carbonate) for growth.  This reduces carbonates.  Also, carbonate hardness is constantly removed by organic acids from metabolic wastes and other biological processes which produce nitric acid and carbon dioxide from respiration.  All of these processes drops pH and removes alkalinity carbonate hardness from the water.  Therefore, to keep a table pH and alkalinity, carbonate ions must be replaced as much as it is removed.  ALKALI BUFFER (KH) contains carbonate, bicarbonate, borate, magnesium and potassium salts and replaces and maintains carbonate hardness (KH), thus keeping a stable pH.
SPECIAL NOTES
  1. Do not mix ALKALI BUFFER (KH) with any calcium, magnesium or strontium supplement.  If mixed precipitations will form.
  2. Do not allow alkalinity to drop below 2.5 meq/L (125 ppm or 7 KH)
  3. For a closed system, alkalinity of 3 to 4 meq/L (150 to 200 ppm or 8.5 to 11 KH) is recommended.  A higher value gives greater pH stability.
  4. One gram contains about 400 mg alkalinity.  One gram will increase5.25 ppm alkalinity for every 20 gallons of aquarium water.  One teaspoon will increase 26.25 ppm.
  5. Then add solution slowly to water until it reaches the desired result.
  6. Solution dissolved in a one gallon container can deliver about 2850 mg of calcium (if adding this solution to a 55 gallon tank, the calcium level will increase to about 15 ppm).
  7. POW CALC contains calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide.
